Industry leader in health and work environment development

HPI offers IT services and expertise to occupational health services and other health and work environment actors. Kumpan was hired to review their digital products and improve the user experience throughout. More consistency was requested, which we of course solved through thoughtful and solid work from our skilled UX designers.

Develop understanding of platform usage

HPI's request was that the user experience on their digital platform 'Medical checks in working life' should feel professional and serious, while also appearing modern and having a consistent expression overall.

Our work started with trying to gain as good an understanding of the products as possible. A thorough and exciting task since much needs to be grasped to understand how users navigate within and use the products.

Once we had an overview and understood the situation, we started rebuilding and refreshing the current design components - everything from buttons and typography to menus and charts. Along the way, we discovered that there were parts of the products that were not accessible.

Accessibility is an important aspect

The problems were mainly in color schemes where we needed to work with contrast colors to increase readability. Working with accessible design is an important aspect when the system is aimed at actors in the health industry. After adjusting the color schemes, we tackled the typography. Among other things, we updated their font to one different from what was previously used for increased readability and accessibility.

Some other things we worked on included reviewing and optimizing user flows, improving navigation and menus, designing new data presentation, creating new login flows, and developing consistency in iconography. Last, but certainly not least, we built a solid design system containing all the components the development team needed to piece together the views within the products.

Now more can partake in the platform

The result is that HPI is now ready to launch its new platform and can meet its business goals of inviting more user groups from the existing actors. The idea is, among other things, that this will lead to making employers more involved in occupational health work by providing them with the right type of decision support.

In addition to improvements in the customer experience itself, there is now also a bunch of happy developers who no longer have to make their own design decisions when coding new features. Instead, they can lean back and rely on the design system that forms the foundation for all of HPI's products.

HPI's CEO Peter Wallin is extremely pleased with the result:
— The collaboration with Kumpan has been flexible, straightforward, and solution-focused. We definitely want to continue working with them.
